Dragon

cross-stitch artwork

Kellet Dragon, 2024

In February 2024, the start of the Chinese New Year of the Dragon, I was commissioned to create a large-scale artwork to be permanently displayed at Kellett, the British international school in Hong Kong.

The cross-stitch piece measures an impressive 2m x 1m, making it the largest artwork I've created to date. I designed it by blending the Kellett School logo with the school's dragon mascot, then meticulously converting the graphic into a pixel-based pattern to match the dimensions of the metal grid.

I first worked on the dragon for 2.5 weeks in my studio on Cheung Chau Island. I then carefully transported the piece via ferry and then by van to the Kowloon Bay campus, where it became a collaborative project with the help of art students from the upper secondary school. The dragon was on display, and students were able to contribute during the Spring Fair event. They did a great job!

Later, the dragon was transported to the Pok Fu Lam primary school campus, where I continued working on it for an additional week. While the primary students were fascinated by the process and would often visit to ask questions, the design was too complex for them to directly assist. It was so cute and lovely to be surrounded by so much curiosity and compliments!

I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to collaborate with the staff and students at both the Kellett School campuses on this project. It's been a pleasure working together, and I'm very happy with the final result. I'm very grateful for this opportunity. This cross-stitch dragon is an exciting addition to my portfolio, and I look forward to our next big project together!
