Artist - Becky Gilmour
Through the vibrant medium of textiles, I embarked upon a captivating journey as a fiber artist. With 13 years of experience in the fashion industry, my path has led me through the bustling cities of London and New York, ultimately finding solace in the enchanting tapestry of Hong Kong.
In founding Make and Do HK in 2017, my vision went beyond creating a personal studio and practice. I aimed to establish a playground for creative minds, a space to share passions, inspire others, and celebrate the artistry of craftsmanship. I firmly believe that surrounding ourselves with objects and colors that evoke delight can profoundly impact our mood and well-being, fostering an environment that ignites imagination and creativity.
Working with my hands has proven to be a therapeutic endeavour, sustaining me throughout my artistic journey. The healing power of making resonates deeply within me, infusing each stitch, knot, and intricate detail of my textile creations. The slower and deliberate pace of my work allows for a deeper connection with the materials, inviting awareness and reflection into the creative process. I find myself continuously fascinated by the artistry of craftsmanship, and I weave these elements into the very fabric of my work, breathing new life into diverse materials and stitching together narratives of transformation and resilience.
