About Becky / "Make and Do HK"
Becky Gilmour, a UK-born designer and textile artist based in Hong Kong, established her personal studio, Make and Do HK, in 2017 after a 13-year career in the fashion industry. She has collaborated with notable companies such as Facebook, adidas, Swire Properties, Bloomberg, and AlA Group, creating fibre art installations in shopping malls, brand headquarters, restaurants, and private residences. Becky has also been commissioned for large-scale embroidery art in the streets, showcasing her talent for transforming urban spaces. Working alongside brands and architects, she crafts captivating textile creations. Becky actively conducts educational workshops with schools, promoting creativity and well-being.
Her vibrant artworks are characterised by weaving, stitching, and knotting techniques, exploring the emotional impact of handmade crafts. Drawing inspiration from the therapeutic nature of working with her hands, her slow and deliberate artistic process creates a profound sense of connection to the materials. Through intricate textile patterns, she evokes a sense of warmth and nostalgia while incorporating elements of transformation and self-discovery, infusing her designs with joy and playfulness.
